Lori Cannon
Lori Cannon (born 1951) enjoyed getting to know many gay entertainers when she worked as a “Bus Driver to the Stars” in Chicago. When the AIDS epidemic hit, Lori’s caring nature kicked in and she helped plan meals for AIDS patients residing at the Chicago House. This evolved into Open Hand/Chicago, a food pantry and grocery source for those diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. Over the years, more than 15 million meals were delivered by volunteers led and organized by Lori, aka “the AIDS Angel.”
Why this stop? Around the corner from the Red Line Bryn Mawr stop is Groceryland, aka Vital Bridges/Heartland Alliance Grocery Center with whom Open Hand/Chicago has partnered).
